Openings Concert Vredesweek (Peace Week) 2025: Premiere of Le Secret de la Paix in the Jacobskerk in Vlissingen
On September 20, Vocal Ensemble Cantare Goes and string ensemble ConLegno, conducted by Pim Overduin, will present the opening concert of the Vredesweek 2025.
Peace. The whole world longs for it. Yet peace seems more distant than ever. Still, if each of us commits to peace in our own way and in our own place, it will have an impact. It must. Doing nothing is not an option.
I composed Le secret de la Paix for choir & string orchestra. The work forms the second part of a developing choral cycle, based on the poetry of Omar Khayyam — the 11th-century Persian poet, mathematician, and philosopher whose verses still resonate with a universal quest for peace, freedom, and meaning.
Khayyam’s poetry is remarkable for its timeless quality: both spiritual and earthly, philosophical yet accessible. His words breathe a sense of tolerance and gentleness that feels especially relevant today.
With Le Secret de la Paix, I'm trying to offer a musical tribute to the fragile power of peace — a force that connects, transcends, and inspires.
