In 2017 my hometown Middelburg was celebrating its 800-years birthday. Commissioned by Foundation Middelburg 800 I wrote a composition for the carillon of the Abbey Tower of my city. The title of the piece is MBDCCC and obviously refers directly to festivities. The notes M (i), B, C (well, actually c-sharp) and D play an important role. During 2017 each day, the piece sounded a few times over the city. In January it started with just a few seconds. Every month the piece grew a little longer, In December, it reached its final length of 2'30".
Every month city-carilloneur Janno den Engelsman entered the new
version in the mechanism of the carillon. The piece sounds each
day at 11:45 am, 2:45 pm, 5:45pm and 8:45pm.
The finale version for december is ready.
